FULL CIRCLE

‘A mixed media textile & video installation exploring themes of movement and growth of materials into their given space.

The exhibition is one of exploration and mobility, using work existing temporarily within a space, materials escaping or growing into their given space, and movement injected into the static forms through individuals drawing on their own experiences with these common materials. Nicola utilises the suggestion of tumbling, wobbling, sprouting, short repetitive film clips and the use of malleable components such as rubber or elastics to suggest the possibility of flux within a stationary sculpture.

Challenges and Problem solving are at the core of her practice and many of the sculptures are born from the discovery of a new craft technique, or the desire to test a new material. The finished work is then brought about through the perfection of this newly developed skill. The documentaries are an extension of this sculptural research, and address the idea of what one might consider as the sole function of a crafted object ‘
